Automated Cleaning Business Review (Mike Mak)

Cleaning Business Coach

Mike Mak helps everyday people build automated cleaning businesses without getting dirty. The Pick Up Cash Not Trash author believes online businesses are either too techie, too competitive, or too short-lived. He tried Amazon FBA, Shopify drop shipping, even digital marketing. Got nowhere. And so, with a wife and kid, he had to look for something offline. Something old school. He didn’t care if it was flashy or not; he just needed to make some money.

“Luckily,” Mike pitches, “high-ticket cleaning businesses are the exact opposite of most internet businesses. Not only is it big ticket, but it provides recurring revenue. Which means you get paid month after month for years to come. So you never have to worry about the ups and downs that most businesses have to go through. And the process is simple. Most of the work can be done from the comfort of your own home. You don’t need an office, a work van, or fancy equipment, either.”

“You don’t need to spend months and months getting permits and licenses from your state,” he continues. “In fact, you could literally have your cleaning business up and running in less than a week. And be profitable inside of 30 days. All you have to do is send out some clever marketing pieces and a few call ya back, right? Then you go on a couple walk-throughs, and boom, you’ve landed your first client. The best part about office cleaning businesses is they’re time-tested and recession-proof.”

All the chaos in the world right now? Yeah, it’s not gonna affect ya. No matter how bad the economy gets, no CEO’s gonna start scrubbing toilets and vacuuming carpets and cleaning out the microwave in the break room that Linda apparently thinks she can reheat spaghetti in without covering it. But Mike knows that you’re thinking: You don’t wanna clean either. Well don’t worry, you won’t have to. When you set things up the right way, all you have to do is oversee the operations. Takes about five hours per week, tops.

So what are the steps? First, get offices, aka clients. And no, you don’t need to hit up your warm market or post flyers all over town or just start showing up places like a Taylor Swift stalker. Not only are those things no fun, but at best you’ll land low-level clients, which is not what you want, Mike explains. You want high-end clients that’ll pay you anywhere from $3- to $10,000 a month. That’s the sweet spot. Any lower than that and you’re gonna have itty-bitty margins. Any higher and it’s too much to manage.

Mike and his wife have some out of the box marketing strategies you can model to attract these dream clients. Now you need to hire good cleaners and pay ’em what they’re worth. Not hard to do when you’re charging your clients like $5k a month, right? And you’d be surprised, lots of people are willing to clean part-time for decent pay. They’ll show you where you can go to recruit these folks. Now it’s time to automate and scale up. Easiest way to do that is to promote your best cleaner to manager and let them run the day-to-day.

Ideally, Mike says, your clients are happy, your cleaners are happy, your manager’s happy, and you’re happy ’cause you’re taking home 40% or so of everything that’s coming in, without having to do a whole heckuva lot. One account at a time. Next thing ya know, you’re netting over $10k a month. Assuming you don’t have a rich uncle who’s gonna buy you a Chic-fil-A franchise, Mike sees this as the number one way to make job-replacing income that can stand the test of time.
